Design VIII: Kain II

Design VIII

Kain's second Darkmatter saber. I had a few things in mind while I was drawing up the concept design for this saber. Kain himself was a scientist before his life took a dramatic change. Utilizing my obsession with a particular number--no, it is not six--and having the old black and white Frankenstein movies for inspiration, what with the electricity-spewing monster-awakening machines created by the mad scientist, I placed the rings on the upper grip leading up to the emitter shroud. Below that is my favorite part of this saber, the Darkmatter Conductor, at the center between the upper and lower grips.

One of Kain's enemies discovered a way to counter the Darkmatter saber's devestating strength with a dual modulating power source and modified energy return circuitry. Kain, having realized such had occured, took it upon himself to improve upon his already powerful weapon, and created a more powerful Darkmatter Conductor, which modulates the frequencies of the Darkmatter blade to an infinite number, creating a counter to his enemy's modulating power supply and modified energy return circuitry.

While designing the lower grip, I wanted to keep another part of it, asside from the emitter shroud, similar to Kain I. The modified grip design fits the saber nicely, whith dual slits on either side of engraved symbols on the back of the grip. It's a shame, it's difficult to see the engraved symbols in the picture above.

Eventually I'll build a third version of Kain's Darkmatter saber. It may be a more compact single saber, or a set of dual sabers that can connect and disconnect at the pommel. We shall see when the time comes.
