Replica IX: Anakin RotS Rebuild

Replica IX
spaceball

Another Anakin RotS for my buddy up in Canada, however this isn't an upgrade, but a rebuild. I was limited on time, and I still (at this point) do not have a proper shop at my disposal, and had to utilize the backyard and a steel table in order to build this, which I'm not used to doing, though sometimes one must make compromises I suppose. This was more of a spur-of-the-moment type of thing. I didn't expect it would take me very long to build this, and in fact if I had my shop, it would have been a week at the most to upgrade his Obi-Wan RotS and rebuild the Anakin RotS. We agreed on the job a few days before I was scheduled to start working on my parent's house. I ended up starting on the house first, and what should have taken a week at most to make repairs to the house ended up spiraling out of control and turned into a month. Over the course of that month, I spent a couple hours here and there when I got the chance to work on the Anakin. I finally finished it, though because of the pressure from working on the house and the fact my friend needed the lightsaber as soon as possible and time was running out, some things didn't quite turn out the way I wanted them to.

It's one thing I don't plan on ever doing again: rushing on a saber project while cooking an even bigger fish. I do not rush. When you rush, measurements go wrong, paint gets smudged or blemished, and you slip while working with a circular saw and accidentally amputate a finger or three (which would be great if you needed free amputation, but I don't). Well, fortunately in my case, it was simply a fact of paint getting smudged, which put me in a bad mood, as I didn't have time to fix it, and I do not send out my sabers incomplete or damaged (even if it's a smudge in the paint). He said he would touch up the paint, as he could not wait another day for me to do it, which normally I would not find acceptable, but I made a one-time acception to the rule.

That aside, I love it. It turned out almost exactly the way I had planned. It's longer than my previous version, it has Graflex Grips, and a mock glass eye. It looks more like a Luke ANH than an Anakin RotS, however my buddy has a couple parts on his side he plans to use to make it look more like an Anakin RotS. The only thing that troubles me about this version is the prongs. I didn't have time to touchup that scuffed paint, but otherwise, it's a jewel. Ahh, another beauty slipped between my fingers ... *sigh*
